Layered Woodland Card with Die-Cut Arches | Altenew Educators Video Hop
Hi there everyone!
Welcome to the Altenew Educators’ Video Hop. The theme of this hop is “Layer It Up!” where we’re celebrating the beauty of layers in cardmaking. Whether you enjoy stacking cardstock panels, building dimensional die-cuts, blending layered stencils, or experimenting with mixed media textures, today’s projects are all about adding depth and visual interest.
My card was inspired by the beautiful hop banner, and I wanted to recreate that layered, dimensional feel using die-cuts and ink blending.
Even though this card looks detailed, it’s quite simple to put together and mostly involves die cutting and layering.
Be sure to hop along on the Altenew YouTube channel and leave a comment on each video to enter the giveaway. There are prizes up for grabs, so don’t forget to participate while you enjoy all the inspiration.

Step 1: Die Cut the Background Layers
- Die cut the Nesting Arches Die Set from Pink Sand Cardstock.
- Set aside all layers.
- These will be adhered later using foam tape for dimension.
Step 2: Die Cut and Ink the Tree Stump
- Die cut the stump pieces from white cardstock using the In the Woods Layering Die Set.
- Ink each layer as follows:
- Base layer: Vanilla Cream Fresh Dye Ink
- Second layer: Pumpkin Pie Fresh Dye Ink
- Third layer: Sand Dunes Fresh Dye Ink
- Top layer: Milk Chocolate Fresh Dye Ink
- Add extra shading along the edges for depth.
- Adhere layers together using liquid adhesive.
Tip: Add darker ink to edges of die cuts to instantly create depth.
Step 3: Create the Leafy Elements
- Die cut foliage from white cardstock.
- Ink blend:
- Base: Lime Fresh Dye Ink
- Shading: Evergreen Fresh Dye Ink (blend from the base upward)
- Set aside.
Step 4: Assemble the Flowers
- Keep petals mostly white for contrast.
- Add Honeydew Glow Fresh Dye Ink to the center area.
- Ink flower centers with Lime Fresh Dye Ink.
- Use a Petal Shaper Tool to gently cup the petals inward.
- Assemble using the keyhole system.
Tip: Keep some elements white to balance heavily inked areas.
Tip: Use temporary adhesive first to test placement before committing.
Step 5: Build the Layered Background
- Position the tree stump on the first arch layer.
- Once happy, adhere using foam tape.
- Add the second and third arch layers with foam tape, creating dimension between each layer.
- Temporarily arrange foliage using glue tape before final placement.
Step 6: Arrange and Adhere Die-Cut Elements
- Tuck leaves and flowers around the stump.
- Adhere using liquid adhesive.
- Vary placement across layers for depth and interest.
Step 7: Add Finishing Details
- Add controlled splatters using Flex Calligraphy Pens.
- Add white splatters with Titanium White Gouache.
- Adhere the sentiment from the die set.
- Finish with enamel dots.
I absolutely love how this layered woodland scene came together! The combination of arches, soft ink blending, and dimensional elements really brings the design to life.
