3 Tips for Dimensional One Layer Cards | Perfect Pairings with Jaycee + Video

Let's get one thing straight, one layer cards do not have to be boring. I think part of the beauty of making a one layer card is that they can appear crisp and clean as if you printed a pattern from the internet then placed it onto your card. There are three easy ways to add an interesting dimension to your one layer cards. The best part is this style of card is perfect for mailing without additional postage.

One Layer Card with a Focal Background

With the addition of hot foil plates to the Altenew store, I have found that adding this element of shine is better at creating flat cards than heat embossing. I used this to my advantage to create these large areas of interest with the Golden Days Hot Foil Plate.

To fill in the area between the two flowers, I used the On the Plus Side Stencil as a geometric element to modernize this floral grouping. The added sentiment strip washi tape also helps give this one layer card some dimension without added bulk.

Illusion Twine-Wrapped One Layer Card

The secret is in the added details to the twine images. By coloring in a subtle shadow to the twine, I am able to get the illusion of height without the added bulk of the actual baker's twine. I even fooled myself at how easy this was to achieve.

Coloring Outside the Lines for a One Layer Card

The Whimsical Flower Bunch Coloring Sheets contain beautiful illustrations that are ready for any card front. I opted to color outside the lines with the Sunshine Valley Garden Artist Marker Set in a Terrazzo tile style.

Then, I experimented with line weight with the Fine Liner Pen Set. This enabled me to add dimension in a different way with stippling and thickening focal points for added interest. This way, my one layer card not only has dimension but a little bit of personal style. I drew inspiration from Mehndi, Dot Work Tattoos, and Terrazzo tiles for this one layer card.
