Do You Only Need ONE Die Set? | Take 2 With Therese (Layering Die Techniques + Video)

Hi, it's Therese, and I am back with another edition of Take 2 with Therese! Today, I'm sharing two beautiful cards, using Altenew's Craft-A-Flower: Gardenia Layering Die Set.

Have you ever looked CLOSELY at your layering dies?

Do you need ‘filler flowers' for your card project? Filler flowers are the small flowers that build a bouquet and can help add balance to a card design.  Did you know that you can create flowers using a layering die from sets such as the Altenew Craft-A-Flower series?

Today, I created 3 NEW flowers using one layering die set and I have a BONUS idea to share as well… do you think you can guess it? 

Card #1 – Hello

The Gardenia Layering Die Set has 2 large blooms and a variety of leaves.  Assembling one of the flowers can make it easier to see which layers of dies are needed to create the smaller blooms, OR look at the packaging as the layering guide is printed on the back.

To create the flowers, I die cut Blush Solid Cardstock for a base color and then ink blended yellows from the Pocketful of Sunshine Fresh Dye Ink Set.

PRO TIP: Using different tones of ink to create darker and lighter flowers will give beautiful variations to your bouquet.

For today's example cards, I used the Tufted Elegance 3D Embossing Folder to add some texture in the backgrounds.

I also added some Pure White Ink splatters, and a simple gold Signature Words Die cut sentiment.

Card #2 – Have a Beautiful Day

I went a step further and made 2 smaller filler flowers for this card design. Can you see that I used the largest bloom center yet again, but only the final 3 layers of die-cuts? And, I also used the center of the second flower from the set to create a small flower.

BONUS IDEA with Layering Die Sets:

Did you know that you can use ‘petal' dies to create leaves? In this example card, I die cut Mountain Mist cardstock using ‘petals' and ink blended them with Matcha Tea Fresh Dye Ink. 

To assemble this handmade card, I added an inlay die-cut Fine Circle as a focal point for the sentiment, from the Classic Greetings Stamp Set as well as some beautiful Iridescent Gem Sparkles.

One of the best things about a multi-layered floral layering die is that you can create flowers within flowers or even leaves!
