Monochromatic Elegance for Memory Keeping (With Video Tutorial!)
Hello there! It's Nathalie with you today with a monochromatic elegance for memory keeping idea featuring Altenew's Craft Your Life Project Kit: Magnificent Magnolias in this new edition of Creativity Unlocked.
The new Craft Your Life Project Kit: Magnificent Magnolias is probably one of my favorites from the latest release. The stamp features a delicate image with heartfelt sentiments, a beautiful die, an ingenious embossing folder/stencil set that are so versatile. I am focusing on the stamp and die to bring my idea for this spread:
The combination of the stamp set and the die is what is bringing the inspiration of monochromatic elegance for memory keeping in this project. Let's take a closer look at some of the details behind the layout.
A Soft Background Shade
My choice for a soft background is the perfect frame for this story. In this case, the soft pastel background dictates the color scheme for the page, that means pink -in this case- is the color that will bring the pop and help with bringing understated elegance to the spread.
Create a Coherent Theme for the Spread
The branches from the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Magnificent Magnolias are designed to work alone or in combination with the rest of the kit. I am using the stamps to create the illusion of a piece of a Magnolia tree branch hugging the two pages of the spread. To create the crisp impression of the branches on the spread, I am using my Stampwheel 2.0, and Obsidian Pigment ink as I had to make sure that the image continued through the entire width of the two-page spread.
Stay in Just One Color Family
The idea of monochromatic elegance for memory keeping is all about using a single tone to bring the story to life. I am using tones from Altenew's Dried Petals Fresh Dye Inks Inks (Pink Crystal and Mauve) to color only the centers of the magnolia die cuts before putting the flowers together. Once, the florals were put together (the keyhole system in the die cuts make the building of the florals a breeze!), I added extra color using the same inks and the smallest Detailed Blending Brushes to make sure the color pops in each floral.
Create Cohesiveness
Since my spread spans through both sides of the page it is important to make sure to find a way to connect both sides. I am doing so in three different ways: same colored die cuts, repetition, and the placement of the title. We have already looked into the die cuts, this time let's take a look at the location of the title. In this case, the sentiment -from the stamp in this set- is placed exactly on the empty space that the two stamped branches create on the two pages, hence working as the link that ties the two sides together.
The last key element was repetition and using the sentiments in the Craft Your Life Project Kit: Magnificent Magnolias in three (3) places on the spread bring the last bit of cohesion the spread. All that is left are some finishing details.
A pop of shine is always a great finishing touch. I am using soon-to-be-released sequins (Twinkling Rose) to add shine and also as a means to drive the viewers eye through the spread by placing them along the entire width of the stamped background,
